How long does LVP installation take?

Is LVP really 100% waterproof?
Premium rigid-core LVP — the kind we install — is 100% waterproof on its surface, which is why it works in basements, kitchens, and bathrooms. Standing water for days can still seep through the seams to the subfloor, so it's not a substitute for fixing actual leaks. But spilled drinks, pet accidents, mopping, and dishwasher overflow? No problem.
Can LVP be installed over my existing floor?
Often yes — LVP can be installed over most existing hard surfaces (tile, sheet vinyl, sealed hardwood) if the surface is flat and stable. We'd rip up old carpet first. Subfloor flatness matters more than the existing floor type — if your subfloor has high spots or dips beyond 3/16″ across 10 feet, we level it before install.
Do I need a permit to replace flooring, countertops, or cabinets in Cincinnati?
Straight surface replacement — new flooring, new counters, or swapping cabinets in the same footprint — is generally not the kind of work Cincinnati's Department of Buildings & Inspections permits, since it isn't a structural alteration. What does require its own permit is any change to electrical, plumbing, or HVAC: moving a sink, adding a circuit for an island, or relocating an appliance. Interior demolition and true interior alterations also require a building permit. We'll tell you up front which bucket your project falls in and pull what's needed.
My home is in a Cincinnati historic district — does that restrict a kitchen remodel?
Almost certainly not. Cincinnati's Historic Conservation Board reviews exterior work, demolition, new construction, and site improvements — a Certificate of Appropriateness covers changes affecting the outside of the property. Interior surfaces are outside that review, so flooring, countertops, and cabinets in an Over-the-Rhine or Hyde Park historic property aren't subject to it. If your project does touch anything exterior, we'll flag it before work starts.
